Manila, Feb. 5 -- The Philippine Coast Guard rescued two fishermen Wednesday evening after their boat took on water in rough seas off Basilan province.

Coast Guard Sub-Station Malamawi reported Thursday the motorboat, traveling from Zamboanga City to Isabela City with a load of fish, encountered large waves near Barangay Baluno. The fishermen jettisoned 14 ice chests of fish as a safety measure.

The fishermen, whose names were withheld, remain in good condition but received first aid for minor injuries before being taken to Basilan Medical Center for assessment. The Coast Guard towed the distressed vessel to Isabela City.
