Manila, Feb. 6 -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. extended the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil by four months, Malacanang announced Thursday.

Marcos approved the extension of Marbil's government service through a memorandum dated Feb. 4, 2025, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, according to a Presidential Communications Office news release.

Marbil was supposed to retire on Feb. 7, 2025 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56.

The President recently hinted at extending Marbil's term to ensure stability during the upcoming midterm elections.
