Manila, Jan. 27 -- Malacanang on Tuesday praised House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos for voluntarily inhibiting himself from all impeachment proceedings against his father, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., calling the move proper and statesmanlike.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the young lawmaker's decision to step back from deliberations involving an impeachment complaint against his own father reflected integrity and respect for democratic institutions.

"The act of Congressman Sandro Marcos inhibiting himself voluntarily from this issue, especially regarding the impeachment complaint filed against his own father - it is a hallmark of a statesman," Castro said in a press briefing at the Palace.
