Manila, July 1 -- The Department of Agriculture (DA), in coordination with other government agencies, on Tuesday seized PHP34.2 million worth of smuggled agricultural products from China at the Port of Manila.
The six container shipments, which arrived in the country on May 27 and June 1, were misdeclared as "assorted food items" like mantou, egg noodles, and kimchi, according to the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Based on the DA price watch, the amount of the two 40-foot containers of confiscated frozen mackerel is estimated to be at PHP20 million, while the three containers of red onions and one container of white onions are approximately worth PHP10.3 million and PHP3.82 million, respectively.
