Manila, Jan. 3 -- Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said the PHP2.9-billion budget allocated for the School-Based Mental Health Program and the creation of the Learner Wellness Division will boost the government's drive for efficiency.
In a statement on Saturday, Gatchalian said the allocation is consistent with the implementation of Republic Act 12080, or the Basic Education Mental Health and Well-Being Promotion Act.
The law mandates the development and strengthening of the School-Based Mental Health Program to promote the well-being of learners, which shall manage their mental health concerns.
During Academic Year 2021-2022, the Department of Education reported 404 students died by suicide and 2,147 attempted to take their lives.
