Manila, Feb. 18 -- Around 800 farmers in Barangays Buenlag and Banaoang in Calasiao will benefit from the 660-meter irrigation lateral canal worth PHP15 million constructed through the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
In a statement Tuesday, NIA Ilocos Region acting regional manager Geffrey Catulin said the structure would enable water to flow faster and lessen water seepage compared to when the canal was only made of earth.
The irrigation can supply water to around 600 hectares of land in the two villages, he said.
"We will continue to provide irrigation canal projects for our farmers," Catulin said, adding that NIA has allocated PHP201 million for Pangasinan this year.
