Manila, Feb. 4 -- The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Tuesday seized PHP12.2 million worth of petroleum products and equipment and arrested 26 persons, including a Chinese national, in an operation in Batangas.

CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the arrests and seizure stemmed from a Bureau of Customs (BOC) request to crack down on suspected smuggling operations at the port, based on a report.

Torre said the CIDG's Batangas provincial unit, the Calabarzon regional unit, the San Juan Municipal Police Station, as well as operatives from the BOC and the Philippine Coast Guard, carried out the operation at 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday at the Subukin Port in San Juan town.
