Malasiqui Pangasinan, Aug. 12 -- More than 73,000 youths aged 15 to 17 registered as new voters in Pangasinan from Aug. 1 to 10, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office reported Monday.

Provincial election supervisor, lawyer Marino Salas said they were part of the 110,674 individuals who signed up during the 10-day registration, surpassing their 75,000 target.

He noted that youth voters have been decisive in past elections, citing their high awareness and interest in participating.

"The youth voters have been the deciding factor in the last election, their awareness is high, hence their interest in joining in voting is also high, as reflected in the registration," he said in an interview.
