Manila, Oct. 14 -- More than 200,000 families were affected by the Oct. 10 twin earthquakes that hit Manay, Davao Oriental and nearby areas, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Tuesday.

The 200,914 affected families, equivalent to 845,001 individuals, are residents of 421 barangays in the Davao and Caraga regions, the NDRRMC said.

As of Tuesday noon, 3,176 families were being helped inside eight evacuation centers, while 52 families were taking temporary shelter and receiving assistance elsewhere.

Eight people, all from Davao Oriental, were reported killed, but these are still being validated, the NDRRMC said.
