Manila, April 24 -- The military's neutralization of a ranking leader of the extremist Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and 11 other members highlights its commitment to achieving lasting peace in Mindanao, the country's peace body said Wednesday.

In a statement, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said the Armed Forces of the Philippines' (AFP) successful April 22 operation that led to the death of Mohiden Alimodin Animbang and 11 of his followers during a clash in Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao Del Sur, is a testament of the institution's professionalism and bravery.
