Manila, March 31 -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Monday said it would adopt a two-pronged approach to further beef up preparations for earthquakes, in the wake of the magnitude 7.7 tremor that rocked Myanmar and Thailand last week.

In an interview with Radyo 630, OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno said they will beef up their "level one" and "level two" preparations as part of their efforts to make communities more earthquake-resilient.

"Level one" preparations refer to engineering solutions while "level two" are actions like the "duck, cover, and hold" drills that could help minimize casualties should a massive tremor hit the country.
