Manila, Nov. 8 -- Typhoon Uwan has rapidly intensified over the Philippine Sea east of Eastern Visayas, the weather bureau said Saturday.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the center of Typhoon Uwan was located 680 km. east of Borongan, Eastern Visayas or 760 km. east of Catarman, Northern Samar.

It is moving westward at 35 kph with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.
