Manila, July 3 -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is eyeing the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered traffic signal systems with video detectors to improve traffic flow in the metropolis.
In a press conference at the MMDA head office in Pasig City on Thursday, MMDA Chair Romando Artes said the new system would improve public service by upgrading traffic detection from the current ground loop detection to video detection.
"As we phase in the adaptive signaling system, this innovation represents a major step towards ensuring smooth traffic flow, minimizing road crashes, and optimizing efficiency," Artes said.
The MMDA is eyeing the installation of the new AI-powered system by next year.
