Manila, May 13 -- In a secure ceremony at the Army's 6th Infantry Division headquarters here, the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Board of Canvassers proclaimed Datu Ali Midtimbang the new governor and Ustadz Hisham Nando as vice governor on Tuesday.

Midtimbang, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) candidate, defeated incumbent Gov. Bai Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu with 177,162 votes against 144,479.

His running mate, Nando, secured 176,835 votes against opponent Datu Benzar Ampatuan's 134,066.

The proclamation came after the canvass of 334,424 votes from 23 of the province's 24 municipalities, representing a 74 percent voter turnout from 451,687 registered voters.
