Manila, June 20 -- Regulator Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Friday vowed a full investigation into the alleged extortion scheme imposed on taxi drivers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

MIAA's statement came after at least five airport police were relieved from their posts for allegedly getting 40 percent of taxi drivers' earnings.

The Department of Transportation said the extortion scheme forces the drivers to charge exorbitant fees as they would be apprehended or not allowed at NAIA premises if they don't give in to the demands.

The MIAA said it is working with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to verify reports of questionable ticket violations allegedly issued to taxi drivers.
