Manila, Dec. 30 -- The mayor of Atok, Benguet said Tuesday that frost, a recurring phenomenon in the town, has long been factored into local farm management practices to prevent crop damage.

"Alam nila ang ginagawa nila para masiguro na hindi masisira ng pagye-yelo ang mga pananim. Hindi naman ngayon lang nangyayari ito kaya napag-aralan na ng mga farmers natin paano i-handle ang sitwasyon (Our farmers already know what to do to protect their crops when frost occurs. This is not new, so they have learned how to handle the situation)," Mayor Franklin Smith said in a radio interview here.

He said farmers spray water on plants at dawn to melt frost that forms on leaves and vegetables.
