Manila, April 25 -- Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Sonia Malaluan on Friday called on maritime passengers to report suspected overloading to help ensure safety at sea.
In a press conference organized by the Philippine Information Agency in Quezon City, Malaluan emphasized the public's crucial role in addressing maritime transport risks.
"We need the cooperation of everyone -- not just the authorities, but the passengers as well. Huwag na po tayong sumakay kung alam nating lampas na sa kapasidad ang bangka o barko (Let's not board a boat or a ship when it has already exceeded its capacity)," she said.
Such incidents, she said, can be reported to MARINA or Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
