Manila, July 23 -- The City of Manila has been placed under a state of calamity due to widespread flooding caused by weather disturbances.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso reported receiving the approved resolution of the City Council putting Manila under a state of calamity.

On Tuesday, Domagoso wrote the City Council, requesting it to hold an emergency session to tackle his recommendation to declare a state of calamity to accelerate the allocation of funds and assistance to affected residents.
