Manila, April 9 -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) granted special permits to more than 1,000 buses to address the expected surge in commuters during the Holy Week.
In a statement on Wednesday, LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III said 1,018 special permits have been issued that are valid from April 11 to 27 to cover the Holy Week and several more days.
To help ensure the security and convenience of passengers, he said LTFRB personnel have begun random inspections of public utility vehicles (PUV) and transport terminals, validity of operators' documents, vehicle markings, and safety accessories.
The inspection began on April 7 and will continue throughout the travel rush period.
