Manila, Sept. 3 -- The low pressure area (LPA) east of extreme Northern Luzon has developed into a tropical depression (TD) and was named Kiko, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday.

Kiko packs maximum sustained winds of 55 km. per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

It was located 1,170 km. east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon as of 10 a.m.

No tropical cyclone wind signal is hoisted as Kiko is unlikely to directly affect the country, PAGASA said.

The TD is also unlikely to affect the sea condition in the country's coastal waters.
