Manila, April 14 -- The Iloilo International Airport welcomed on Monday low-cost airline Scoot's direct connection to Singapore.

The inaugural flight carried 107 passengers and arrived in Iloilo at 5:35 a.m.

Scoot's flight to Singapore left at 6:10 a.m. with 103 passengers.

"The new route reinforces Iloilo's role as a regional gateway and is expected to boost tourism and economic activity in Western Visayas," the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said in a news release.

"CAAP continues to work closely with aviation partners to promote regional growth while upholding the highest standards of safety and service," it added.
