LAOAG CITY, Dec. 15 -- A modern variety of sorghum locally known as "Bukakaw" is being reintroduced to farmers in Piddig, Ilocos Norte to boost their growing livestock industry, particularly Wagyu cattle.

Former Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Manny Pinol said he was asked to promote sorghum farming to Piddig farmers over the weekend by National Irrigation Authority (NI) Administrator Eduardo Guillen, a former mayor of the municipality.

"Next month, we will establish a 13-hectare sorghum pilot farm in Barangay Tonoton, Piddig to re-introduce the modern variety of 'Bukakaw' to farmers," Pinol announced on his Facebook page Sunday.
