Manila, Feb. 11 -- CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Iligan City is training barangay (village) officials to enforce laws and ordinances that protect children from online abuse.

Armien Alorro of the Iligan City Justice Zone said Tuesday that communities must be the first to learn about and report crimes, especially Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) cases.

"Last November, we conducted training in the 44 barangays," she said. "It explained how to respond to OSAEC cases."

Barangays were also trained to report cases to law enforcement and to an inter-agency task force.

On Feb. 5, the International Justice Mission reported an OSAEC case that led to the arrest of a 31-year-old in Barangay Tipanoy.
