Manila, Jan. 6 -- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announced on Tuesday that it is set to launch this year a new scholarship program that will support 1,000 incoming college freshmen taking up science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses starting Academic Year (AY) 2026-2027.

Under the GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program (GSSP), each grantee will get an annual subsidy of PHP15,000 to help cover education-related expenses, translating to PHP15 million per batch per year.

GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said the initiative supports the national government's thrust to strengthen economic competitiveness through education, in line with the priorities of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
