MANILA, Sept. 15 -- A labor group has supported the appointment of retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr. as chair of the newly created Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) that will investigate anomalous flood control projects.
"Justice Reyes is a jurist with an excellent track record in the judiciary," the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) said in a statement on Monday, hours after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced Reyes' appointment to the ICI.
"We trust in his integrity and hope that his leadership will make a real difference in the fight against corruption."
FFW said with Reyes at the helm, it expects the ICI "to pursue the truth with independence, transparency, and courage."
