Manila, Jan. 27 -- Telecommunications firm Globe Telecom Inc. (Globe) has completed pilot testing for its 50 Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology, enabling data transmission of up to 50 Gigabits per second (Gbps).

In a statement Monday, Globe said the "next-gen" 50 GPON technology has set a new benchmark in broadband connectivity, delivering multi-gigabit speeds to customers.

"By surpassing the capabilities of the current 10 GPON technology, 50 GPON promises improved efficiency, lower latency, and the capacity to address the diverse needs of both residential and business customers," it said.
