Manila, Nov. 7 -- Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, which has intensified while moving over the Philippine Sea, has been given the local name Uwan as it approaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said Friday.

Uwan was estimated at 1,175 km. east of Eastern Visayas, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It is moving westward at 25 kph.

Strong to storm-force winds extend outward up to 780 km from the center of the cyclone.

Uwan was expected to enter the PAR Friday night or early Saturday while moving generally westward before turning west-northwestward. It is forecast to make landfall over the southern portion of Isabela or the northern port...
