LEGAZPI CITY, April 19 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways in Bicol (DPWH-5) has completed a new flood control project worth PHP54 million in Ragay, Camarines Sur.

In a statement on Wednesday, DPWH Regional Director Virgilio Eduarte said the structure will provide better protection to the population, particularly to the residents who are mostly farmers.

"The completed PHP54-million project primarily ensures the safety and protection of nearby communities' lives, properties and crops against flood water during heavy rains and typhoons," Eduarte said.

He added with the project, local farmers will benefit as it secures their agricultural fields mostly of coconuts and abaca.
