Manila, June 20 -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday boosted its efforts to promote restorative justice for children in conflict with the law (CICLs) as it inaugurated the first Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY), exclusively for girls, in Consolacion, Cebu.
The first gender-responsive and sensitive RRCY aims to provide a "safe, nurturing, therapeutic, and rehabilitative environment" for young women and girls in conflict with the law.
According to the DSWD, young women and girls face distinct challenges that are different from their male counterparts, which include higher vulnerability to trauma, abuse, and societal stigma
