Manila, Oct. 5 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has handed over the completed PHP160-million flood-control project to the city government.

An aerial survey conducted on Wednesday by local and DPWH officials revealed the 330-meter project along the Iponan River bank in Barangay Pagatpat, under the DPWH's First District Engineering Office in Cagayan de Oro.

In an interview, Project Engineer Luke Hebron emphasized the importance of flood control in a city that is increasingly vulnerable to climate change and environmental degradation.

"Flood mitigation is critical, especially in areas like ours where deforestation in the watershed has made low-lying communities more susceptible to flash floods," he said.
