Manila, April 2 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed the construction of a new steel bridge worth PHP12 million in Gamay, Northern Samar.

In a news release Wednesday, DPWH Eastern Visayas Director Edgar Tabacon said the bridge, designed for pedestrians and single motorcycles, replaces the old and deteriorating wooden footbridge previously used by local residents in Barangay Central Poblacion.

"This sturdier bridge allows safer passage across Gamay River, replacing the slippery timber footbridge that posed significant risks, particularly during adverse weather conditions," he added.
