Manila, Dec. 20 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that about 9,489 cubic meters of drainage and waterways in Metro Manila have been cleared through declogging and desilting operations.

These efforts are part of the "Oplan Kontra Baha" program, implemented following directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prevent flooding and ensure public safety, the DPWH said in a social media post on Saturday.

As of the third week of December, the department reported that more than 2,531 cubic meters of drainage systems, or approximately 58.4 percent of the target, have been declogged.

Meanwhile, 6,958 cubic meters of waterways have undergone desilting in various areas across the metropolis.
