Manila, Sept. 17 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has formally recommended to Congress the removal of allocations for local flood control projects in the agency's revised budget under the 2026 National Expenditure Program.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Secretary Vince Dizon noted that the recommendation is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to remove funds for such undertakings from the budget.

The funds would instead be allocated to other government projects and programs such as health, education and agriculture.

Dizon said the requested budget cut would mean that their proposed budget would decrease by 28.99 percent, or from the initially submitted PHP881.312 billion to PHP624....
