Manila, May 6 -- The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has expressed support for motorcycle taxis across the country and announced the rollout of a department order for their continued legal operation while awaiting the passage of a permanent law.
In a statement on Tuesday, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the continued operation of motorcycle taxis is consistent with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ease the passengers' burden by giving them more options for transport, a faster commute, and more time with their families.
He said the department order would be released as the motorcycle taxi pilot program officially ended in 2024, and there was not enough time for Congress to introduce a motorcycle taxi bill.
