Manila, April 4 -- The Department of Science and Technology's Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) is in the process of applying for the designation of its xylarium as a National Cultural Treasure (NCT).

The xylarium, also known as a wood library, is located within the DOST compound in Los Banos, Laguna. It houses a vast collection of wood specimens, some dating back to the early 1900s.

Forester Glenn Estudillo, curator of the xylarium and senior science research specialist in the Anatomy and Forest Botany Section of DOST-FPRDI's Material Science Division, in an interview with the Philippine News Agency here on Friday that they are currently preparing the necessary documentation for the NCT application.
