Manila, Feb. 4 -- The Department of Justice (DOJ) said Wednesday the criminal charges filed by the government against fugitive Charlie "Atong" Ang regarding the missing sabungeros (cockfighting enthusiasts) can withstand scrutiny by the courts.

Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida made this remark when sought for comment on Ang's lawyers' filing of a motion to quash the arrest warrant issued against the gambling tycoon.

"Well, these are remedies (filing of motion to quash) ng counsel nila (by their counsel), but definitely the position of the DOJ (is) our case is good, it's based on solid evidence.
