MANILA, April 21 -- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday joins the Filipino community and Roman Catholics worldwide in mourning the death of His Holiness Pope Francis.
"As we mourn this great loss, we remember The Holy Father's example of compassion and humility," the DFA said in a statement.
The agency noted that Pope Francis is best known for his encyclical Laudato si: (Praise be to You) and was a beloved spiritual leader for millions of Filipinos who follow his writings on how to care for the environment.
He also advocated for more protection for the poor and the oppressed.
