Manila, Jan. 27 -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is open to amending the country's solid waste management law, promising to conduct a thorough review of its implementation following the deadly landfill collapse in Cebu.

DENR Secretary Raphael Lotilla said the Republic Act (RA) 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, remains sound in principle since its passage in 2000, but acknowledged gaps in its implementation, adding that changing conditions now require a more critical reassessment.
