Manila, Sept. 17 -- Department of Agriculture (DA) Assistant Secretary for Agribusiness, Market, and Consumer Affairs Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra reported that commodity prices in Davao City's major public markets are 10 percent to 20 percent lower than those in Metro Manila.
During her visit to the Agdao and Bankerohan public markets on Wednesday, Guevarra monitored the supply and pricing of rice, meat, and other basic goods. She noted that chicken sells for PHP165 per kg. in Davao, compared to PHP200 in Manila. Rice prices, however, remain comparable between the two regions.
The visit aligns with the national government's 60-day importation ban on regular-milled and well-milled rice, prompting tighter price and supply monitoring.
