Manila, Jan. 29 -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) has approved the importation of breeder goats and sheep to enhance livestock quality and strengthen farming sectors, particularly in Mindanao.

In a press release on Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr. said the initiative aimed at improving genetic quality and boosting sustainable meat production.

The department said the goats -155 Anglo Nubian bucks, 175 Boer bucks, and 1,190 Boer does-will be distributed to farms in Cebu and North Cotabato.

Also, North Cotabato will be allocated 260 Dorper rams and 4,050 Dorper ewes.

Funding has been secured under the 2024 budget, with procurement overseen by the National Livestock Program, Tiu-Laurel said.
