Manila, Jan. 12 -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Monday confirmed the approval of 100,000 metric tons (MT) export of raw sugar to the United States to help ease the downward trend of farmgate prices.

In a statement, DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the move will help "soak up" the excess raw sugar as the country recorded elevated inventories.

"We will export raw sugar under the US quota system as soon as possible to provide the industry with immediate relief," he said.

As of Dec. 21, 2025, the SRA logged 474,170 MT of raw sugar production for the crop year 2025 to 2026.
