Manila, Jan. 15 -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Thursday launched an on-farm verification trial to promote the aquaculture industry and help raise farmers' profits in Nueva Ecija.
DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. led the ceremonial stocking of Australian redclaw crayfish to test its commercial viability.
In a statement, the agri chief said the government wants the province to grow not only crops but also farmers' income.
"With proper observance of good aquaculture practices and biosecurity measures, the culture of Redclaw crayfish offers huge potential that could sustainably transform fish farming in the Philippines," he said.
