MANILA, May 11 -- Police arrested six persons for violating the liquor ban in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on the eve of the May 12 midterm elections, Police Regional Office- Mimaropa (PRO-4B) said on Sunday.
PRO-4B Director Brig. Gen. Roger Quesada said in a statement that the Calapan City Police Station received a citizen's report at around 2:30 a.m. in Barangay Tawiran, where the six were caught selling, serving and drinking alcohol.
"They were immediately apprehended and are now in police custody for appropriate legal action," Quesada said.
Under Section 261 (dd) of the Omnibus Election Code, violators may face imprisonment of one to six years, perpetual disqualification from holding public office, and loss of the right to vote....
