MANILA, Oct. 16 -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) to junk the petition for disqualification against Edgar Erice from running as representative of the 2nd District of Caloocan City in the last May 12 polls.

In an interview on Thursday, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia noted that this is the first time such a case had been decided by the High Court.

"There has never been a case like this before with an interpretation regarding misinformation, disinformation that will create trouble in the electoral process or for the voters. This is the first time," he noted.
