Manila, June 23 -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said it welcomes the petition filed by a political party before the Supreme Court calling for a manual recount of votes for senators in the May 12 elections.
"We welcome these remedies to prove the real mandate of the electorate," Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said in a message on Monday. "We will just wait for the SC's action on this matter."
However, Garcia pointed out that the Comelec will no longer have jurisdiction over the senatorial candidates starting June 30.
