Manila, April 16 -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday reminded candidates in the May 12 midterm elections to pause campaigning and observe the solemnity of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said campaigning on these days is prohibited by law.
"I hope politicians will respect these religious activities and religious things that we consider important for our Catholic Christians. That is in the election law itself, that is an election offense, so that is also a ground to disqualify the candidate," the poll body chief said in a radio interview.
Garcia, meanwhile, said candidates can resume campaigning on Black Saturday.
