Manila, April 3 -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is ready to answer the petition filed before the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to stop Internet voting in the May 12 midterm elections.
"We are ready to face the case filed against us and to have an interpretation if we are right or wrong," Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said in an interview on Thursday.
"As of now, the Comelec will proceed with Internet voting in 77 posts abroad and 16 posts, which will be using the automated counting machines."
The petition was filed by the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino - Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), which said that the use of digital ballots is not authorized by existing laws.
