Manila, March 19 -- The Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro has denied reports of holding a "special Mass" for former president Rodrigo Duterte at the Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral in Cagayan de Oro City.

In a statement on Wednesday, Archbishop Jose Cabantan clarified that the Mass at 5:30 p.m. Thursday is not intended for a specific individual and is open to all.

"A recent report from a media outlet has claimed that the Cathedral is holding a special daily Mass for former president Rodrigo Duterte's health and release back to the Philippines. We wish to categorically clarify that this is incorrect," Cabantan said.
