Manila, April 30 -- An indigenous people (IP) group in Camiguin province is actively pursuing official reinstatement with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) as the distinct 'Kamigin' tribe within the Northern Mindanao Region.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Adriano Ebcas, also known as Datu Momot, underscored the group's aspiration to establish the Kamigin tribe as a legitimate indigenous cultural community, asserting a membership of 15,000 individuals and claiming an ancestral domain within the island province.
Datu Momot said the NCIP previously recognized the tribe through an en banc decision, Resolution 08-22-2019, dated Dec. 19, 2019.
