Manila, Feb. 18 -- The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) will be increasing the fuel surcharge from Level 4 to 5 in March.
This is the first time this year that the CAB has raised the fuel surcharge, or the extra fee that airlines may collect in addition to the base fare to cover the costs incurred from the volatility of fuel.
For low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines, for instance, the Level 5 fuel surcharge would range from PHP151 to PHP542 for domestic flights, and from PHP498.03 to PHP3,703.11 for international flights, depending on the distance.
"We understand that this change may minimally impact guests' travel plans," AirAsia spokesperson Steve Dailisan said in a statement.
